Broken, together
We didnt drink so much because we were complete. We drank so much because we were burdened
..
Broken
But broken together
Never mention it
Til the sun rises
And the buzz breaks the silence
…
Between tears
Blackout drunk
Having conversations we won't remember having
Young men who seemed unbreakable
Unshakable
Who worked their hands to the bone
Admitting they felt their family never loved them..
…
Admitting the world is breaking them
That they're lonely
That there isn't really a point
…
Drinking beer, whisky and tequila
Playing pool, smoking dope
Nothing mattered
Floating carefree
Yet impending doom lurking deep
Ticking like a bomb in the background
Like the looming cigarette smoke
…
It is an accident you can't look away from
It got worse and worse
From a couple casual beers
To long crazy nights
Blacking out
Drugs
Fighting among our brothers and friends
Choosing sides
…
But I miss it sometimes
I was one of those young men
Just drinking as much as I could
Trying to forget yesterday
And tomorrow
Wishing my parents loved me
Like other parents loved their kids
Angry the world handed me the poor and broken family
Rather than the privilege I seen around me
At least when I felt broken
I was broken
With someone else..
Who would help me drink the whisky
…
But I can't let the cycle repeat
So I put it behind me
The bottle
The long broken nights fueled by alcohol and pain
And the broken pieces
I put back together
and found myself again
I refuse to let my children hurt
The same way I did..
…
